Preparation is the Key to Confidence and Success

As some of you may know, I recently started a new executive role. In my latest podcast episode on Redefining Motherhood, I discuss how being thoroughly prepared allowed me to feel confident, despite the uncertainties of a new position. Through diligent research and relationship-building over the past decade, I've gained a strong foundation of industry knowledge to draw from.

Industry Knowledge and Relationship Building

I've spent countless hours learning the intricacies of different roles within my field. I made it a priority to understand how each piece fits into the bigger picture. This involved interviewing professionals across various departments to gain a holistic view. I also invested significant time in nurturing valuable connections with leaders across the industry. Attending conferences and networking events allowed me to organically strengthen my professional network. These relationships have proven instrumental as resources during my transition into this new position.

Asking Questions and Visualizing Success

Rather than feeling overwhelmed by this change, I took time to fully comprehend my new responsibilities and goals. I asked detailed questions of my manager regarding expectations for each core duty. I also connected with past colleagues who held similar roles to gain varied perspectives on approaches they found most effective. Hearing multiple viewpoints helped alleviate the uncertainties I had. I then spent focused hours visualizing myself thriving in this new position.

Learning from Past Transitions

Reflecting on adjustments in my career taught me valuable lessons about the importance of preparation. One example is when I transitioned departments a few years ago. While resources existed to help with onboarding, I didn't utilize them fully or ask others for guidance due to assumptions that I could figure it out alone. As a result, I felt lost navigating new responsibilities initially and it hindered my work. This experience reinforced the value of researching transitions thoroughly and learning from others.

Applying Lessons to Other Areas of Life

The message of preparing to feel confident can translate to any challenge, big or small. Whether considering further education or a career pivot, investing focused hours on research and gathering counsel from those, further along, provides a strong foundation for success. This diligence empowers you to approach changes with competence and belief in your abilities.

As I wrap up my first successful week, I'm energized to keep sharing lessons that may help others facing changes. If you're navigating your own transition, I hope these insights encourage you to have the confidence you need while transitioning. Be sure to listen to the full episode for more takeaways on cultivating confidence through preparation!
